FRS Kindergarten, attached to Finchley Reform Synagogue, is a Reform Jewish Kindergarten where Jewish religion and culture are a living part of the daily curriculum. Kabbalat Shabbat takes place each Friday with blessings and songs, and Jewish festivals are celebrated as they occur through stories, music, drama, creative work and cookery.
FRS Kindergarten was established almost 30 years ago and is registered for 60
children who are divided by age into three classrooms. All the children attend
five mornings a week 9.15am to 12.15pm during term time, and after one year are
able to stay three afternoons until 2.30pm if their parents wish them to. There
is also an early morning club from 8.15am to accommodate the needs of working
families. The Headteacher, Sharon
Lee, has Early Years Professional
Status and all the staff have appropriate nursery qualifications and first aid
certificates.
Outcomes of the last two Ofsted inspections have graded the overall quality of
the provision as outstanding. In December 2009 it was reported: "Children
are very happy, settled and thriving, because all the staff create a safe and
secure environment, where children are valued and supported to make the most of
their abilities. The wonderfully resourced and stimulating environment is
highly effective in promoting outcomes for children as they become confident
learners."
