Gan Alon is the pre-school at New North London Synagogue. Children start Gan Alon in the term they turn three and stay until they enter primary school. The pre-school is open from 9.15am to 12.15pm, five days a week, with an optional hour for lunch from Monday to Thursday, and a further option to attend up to four afternoon sessions to 2.30pm.
Gan Alon is a modern pre-school which promotes child initiated learning achieved by taking detailed observations on every child and creating unique individual lesson plans and objectives for each child in its care. It believes that freedom of artistic and verbal expression and an inclusive, loving atmosphere creates happy, independent, confident children. Ultimately, self-confidence and high self-esteem for all the children in its care is its goal.
Gan Alon has a fully integrated Jewish curriculum, where children enjoy its Masorti pre-school free from religious dogma. It delivers stories from the Torah, uses Ivrit in the classroom and establishes the link between Israel and ourselves whenever possible.
The outcome of a June 2013 Ofsted inspection graded the overall quality of the provision as outstanding. It was reported: “This pre-school offers exceptionally good educational programmes for all the children who attend. All the children are happy and absorbed in their activities. All the children make rapid progress in their learning. Adults have a secure understanding of what young children enjoy doing and this results in children being constantly enthralled in the activities provided by the adults”.
