Hasmonean Primary School is a co-educational voluntary-aided school based in Hendon, London. Established in 1947, it caters for a total of 263 children with 30 children per year.

The nursery caters for 30 toddlers with an additional 20 places in a private pre-nursery. The nursery has one teacher for every 10 children and this increases to one in four for the pre-nursery.

The school’s ethos is Torah im Derech Eretz and there is a focus on Jewish Studies, with around forty per cent of an extended day taken up with the subject. The curriculum also covers, among other things, literacy, numeracy, science, humanities, art, music and physical education.

There are a wide range of extra-curricular activities for the children including chess, football, netball, drama, art, guitar and keyboard lessons, and a boys’ and girls’ choirs.

There are hot meals available for Reception through to Year 6 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These are organised through the Parents Teachers Association and supplied by Barnet Kosher Kitchens.

In its last Ofsted report in 2008, inspectors said the school demonstrated “consistently good teaching and a lively curriculum”. The report added: “Hasmonean Primary is an outstanding school, with a caring and nurturing learning environment underpinned by strong Jewish values.”
