Ilford Jewish Primary School is a voluntary-aided co-educational school in Ilford, Essex. It was established in 1970 and has almost 400 pupils on the school roll with a pupil intake of 45 children for Reception.
The Gan (pre-nursery) has 28 children, and Nursery has 52 children and both follow the guidelines for the Early Years Foundation Stage for this phase of a child’s development. Children in the gan and nursery participate in a wide variety of activities including painting, dressing up, sand and water play, book corner and regular story time. There is daily tefilla and Kaballat Shabbat each Friday and parents are often invited to participate in nursery activities such as Chanukah and Purim mornings. They also join in with whole school activities including culture weeks and celebrations such as Yom Ha’atzmaut.
The school follows the full National Curriculum plus one hour of Jewish Studies daily. and provides an interesting cultural diversity programme with links to other schools.
In IJPS’s last Ofsted inspection in September 2011, inspectors said: “This is a good school whose partnerships with parents and carers and community contribute to its warm and positive family ethos. Pupils are well known individuals and are nurtured carefully throughout their time at the school. They grow into confident young learners who respect one another’s views and opinions. Pupil’s behaviour has a positive impact on their learning. They are well motivated and enjoy coming to school as their active participation in lessons shows.”
